Waddani party Presidential candidate calls for nationwide protests

In a press conference, the presidential candidate of Somaliland’s Waddani party, Abdirahman Irro, has called on his supporters to launch peaceful nationwide protests following the failed poll talks between Somaliland government and the opposition.

Abdirahman Irro urged opposition supporters to come out in large numbers and avoid any activities that could cause insecurity during their protests. However he did not specify which day the demonstration would take place.

He urged the parliament to hold President Muse Bihi accountable for “breaching” and inciting “chaos” in the country adding that they will not consider him as President if he fails to hold the presidential election on 13 Novermber 2022.

Opposition parties temporarily suspended their nationwide protest following a request from the mediators. Waddani and Ucid parties maintain that no other ballot can precede the 13 November presidential election while President Bihi insists on the political association election to come first before the presidential election.

On Sunday, Somaliland house of representatives’ speaker Abdirizak Khalif noted they had attempted to bring the two sides together but their efforts failed after the President denounced to give the confidence to the mediation committee.
