The secretary general of Somaliland’s WADDANI party, Khadar Hussein Abdi described as “misfortune” the unavailability of sufficient water resources in Hargeisa. He said Hargeisa water agency failed due to mismanagement and lack of effective strategies.
Khadar showed support for politicians who have in recent days recommended that Hargeisa water agency be placed under the Hargeisa municipality. He announced that the idea will apply after his party wins the next presidential election which is expected to take place on 13 November this year.
The water in the city is currently managed by the Hargeisa Water Agency which is an independent institution with its own administration appointed directly by the president, and not by the ministry of Water, Minerals and Natural Resources.
Meanwhile, the General manager of Hargeisa water agency Mohamed Ali Daarood has distanced himself from failure and persists that his agency remains as an independent institution.
