Waddani’s chairman says Somaliland Never had a ‘well defined’ foreign policy

The Chairman of Waddani party Hirsi Ali Hajji Hassan has strongly criticized the country’s foreign policy in the last 30 years and put all the blame on Somaliland’s presidents for failing to establish a strong foreign policy.

The chairman noted that the country never had a “ well defined” foreign policy to attract international recognition. Hirsi noted that Somaliland Presidents and the cabinet ministers travel to foreign countries but their meetings end up with no progress when it comes to recognition.

He said it was disappointing that Somaliland has not yet established strong diplomatic relations with the Arab league in which Somalis belong as well as the African union after 30 years of sovereignty.

In Somaliland-Somalia talks, the chairman underlined the importance of these talks while he dashed Somalia’s hopes of reunion. He urged both sides to face the reality on the ground as long as history will judge between the good and bad deeds of today’s politicians.

The statement of the chairman comes a few days before the country celebrates its 31 anniversary of independence since it withdrew from unity with Somalia on 18th May 1991.
