Somaliland’s Burao Local Council Elects Mohamed Ase as New Mayor

In a session convened today, the members of Burao Local Council made the decision to suspend Mayor Abdirisaq Ibrahim Abdi and his deputy Mukhtar Abdi. This meeting followed the recent authorization by the Minister of Interior, responding to persistent requests from council members over the past few months.

Mohamed Hersi, widely known as Mohamed Ase, was elected as the new Mayor of the city, with Suldan Jama Nouh assuming the role of deputy mayor. In a concise statement, the newly elected Mayor expressed gratitude to the local council members, attributing today’s victory to their collective efforts.

He urged the community to engage in a meaningful collaboration with his administration to achieve significant milestones during his tenure.

Governor Mohamed Abdillahi Ibrahim (Nafaqo) of Togdheer region, affirming the legitimacy of the election outcome, extended congratulations to the newly elected Mayor on his successful election.
