Doctors Without Borders, MSF, says at least 40 people were killed in an “explosive weapons” attack on a busy market in Sudan’s Capital, Khartoum.

The attack was described as “carnage” by the medical charity organization, while adding that more than 60 persons were injured.

According to witnesses, a military plane bombed the Qouro market in southern Khartoum on Sunday.

Since April, rival military factions have been fighting in the country.

Reuters news agency quoted an anonymous source who said drones carried out a series of significant air strikes on southern Khartoum on Sunday morning, a significant portion of the city occupied primarily by the RSF.

Doctors Without Borders’ emergency co-ordinator, Marie Burton, stated on Sunday that Khartoum “has been at war for nearly six months.”

In a statement, the RSF accused the Sudanese army of launching the deadly attack, as well as other strikes. The Sudanese army denied responsibility and faulted the RSF.

The army and Rapid Support Forces started fighting on April 15, after disagreements erupted over the integration of their forces in a new democratic transition.

The clashes between the two forces have forced out millions of people including foreigners and killed thousands of others.

While various governments have initiated mediation attempts, none have been successful in bringing the fighting to a standstill.
