The Unionist Alliance, a prominent party within the Forces of Freedom and Change coalition, has strongly denounced the Sudanese military intelligence for the arrest of two of its members, alongside dozens of activists and political actors in Sennar State.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Alliance revealed that one of its members, Sharaf al-Din Sheikh al-Taj, was apprehended from his residence in the Dinder locality of Sennar state by a military intelligence force last Sunday.
The Unionist Alliance also stated the unlawful detention of party member Bakri Mohamed Nurel-Diem, who has been held for more than 120 days since October, and expressed deep concern for the safety of both detainees.
The arrests are part of a series of political arrests that affected over 30 individuals, including political actors, human rights activists, humanitarian workers, and members of the Resistance Committees and Emergency Committees in Dinder.
The anti-war party condemned these arbitrary arrests and characterized them as attempts to stifle dissent and curtail freedom of expression.
The Unionist Alliance squarely placed the responsibility for these illegal detentions on the Military Intelligence, asserting that they lack any legal justification under Sudanese criminal law.
