According to sources, three al-Shabaab fighters have surrendered to the authorities in Beled-Hawa town of Gedo region. The defection of the men comes less than a day after SNA reportedly killed 50 al-Shabaab fighters including the group’s head of operations in Lower Shabelle.
Authorities in the town told local media that the trio turned themselves in to the security forces after their relatives informed the authorities about the men’s defection.
The men who are identified as Mohamed Abdikani Shide, Abdikadir Ibrahim Abdullahi and Abdiaziz Mohamed Kosar arrived in the town on Friday and were handed over to the security agencies.
The three defected from al-Shabaab in Gedo region. During parade in Beled-Hawo town, Abdikadir who spoke to the media said they have denounced the ideologies of the group after they realised the group’s motive to kill innocent civilians.
Recently, al-Shabaab fighters have been defecting from the group after al-Shabaab lost large swath territories to Somali military. The defection of the men comes less than a day after SNA reportedly killed 50 al-Shabaab fighters including the group’s head of operations in Lower Shabelle.
