Hargeisa, today, Awdal Sultans and chieftains met Somaliland’s Deputy President along with three party officials in the presidential office to pass thier griencances to the president. The traditional delegation from Borama was led by Sultan Abdirahman Jama Dhawal.
Instead of their grievances addressed, Somaliland government told them that the parliamentary elections would be as usual, namely without registration of the voter cards. nobody literally raised their concerns whatsoever.
They came back to Borama empty-handed but met a warm welcome at distant place before they enter the city.
” We welcome you the Sultans who won an honor while others disgraced us” a youth activist said speaking on behalf of the Western parts of the country ” we rose and want our rights of equality”.
” You outperformed, uncles, you raised our collective honor, congratulations to you!”
Remarked a young woman with parched voice but with ardor ” we can brag with our peers, don’t destroy our future please, uncles, stay united tomorrow as you are today, “
In Borama, the situation is a rather tense by calls for greater representation. |Awdal people laid the foundation of Somaliland by contributing everything from tax wealth to the blood of their youth when it was a brittle during 1994 war. However, the Sultans says Somaliland government scheduled them again. the timetable for the second meeting looks final since the people of the Western regions demand a greater role not just in parliament but in a government, and judiciary.
