An Air India Express plane with 191 passenger on board has crashed after skidding off the runway while landing at Kerala’s Kozhikode on Friday evening.
According to local media, two deaths have been recorded with about 40 people believed to be injured.
The accident occurred during a heavy downpour in the area at about 07.40 pm local time.
The plane was about to land when the accident occurred. The plane overshot the runway, crashed into the valley and shattered into several pieces.
Despite the intensity of the crash, the plane did not burst into flames.
Several injured passengers have been taken to hospital
Fire engines and ambulances were moved to the scene as quick as possible.
Kozhikode airport is located on the top of a plateau or hill flanked by a steep precipice dropping into a deep gorge.
