Unknown gunmen have killed two prominent businessmen, Saed Tahliil Mohamed and Sheikh Hassan Diirshe,in Dhusamareb, the administrative capital of Galmudug State. The local authorities have confirmed the tragic event, highlighting that the motive behind the killings and the identity of the perpetrators remain under investigation, with the dedicated efforts of the security forces.
This incident occurred amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions, with seven lives lost due to intense inter-clan fighting in Hananbuure village, situated approximately 45 km from Dhusamareb town, since Monday. The ongoing conflict has also resulted in the displacement of several individuals from their homes.
Somalia’s Defense Minister, Abdikadir Mohamed Nur Jama, expressed concerns on Sunday, accusing the al-Shabab group of exacerbating inter-clan conflicts across various regions of the country. The minister alleged that these actions were an attempt to divert attention from intensified operations conducted against the group.
According to the Minister, al-Shabab has been channeling significant resources into instigating conflicts in previously liberated areas, aiming to distract both the government and local forces from their relentless efforts to counter the group’s activities even though al-Shabab has neither confirmed nor denied these allegations.
