In the wake of concluded talks held in Djibouti, Somaliland and Somalia have reached a pivotal agreement, endorsed by the United Kingdom. The UK government deems these talks significant and commends the joint communique issued by both parties. The accord is recognized as a crucial stride toward fostering reconciliation, as emphasized by the UK Embassy in Somalia.
However, Somaliland and Somalia have committed to honoring and upholding the terms of the prior agreement spanning from 2012 to 2020. This development follows Somaliland’s repeated assertions that Somalia had fallen short in implementing previous accords.
A collaborative effort will see the formation of a joint committee, tasked with establishing a comprehensive roadmap for future discussions within 30 days. This committee will focus on addressing the core issues between Somaliland and Somalia.
