Universal TV A Somali News Channel in Somaliland Shut Down

Mohamed Aabi Digaale, Universal TV Director declared that Police forces stormed TV Headquarters in Hargeisa by shutting down. The director said they didn’t had any warrant for the closure; he said Somaliland accused Universal TV, the largest news TV channel in Somalia including Somaliland, of lopsided coverage of Somaliland independence from the UK. “You gave more airtime and live coverage to Villa Somalia celebration events, boys!” Somaliland and Somalia both celebrated 27, 2020. The director as understandably a private news media, remarked it has the right to prolong or shorten a certain events according to the discretion of the editorial as well as the new staff.

Universal TV has been shut down and its crew put behind bars! So far, Somaliland Ministry of Information didn’t comment on the incident.
