The Waddani party of Somaliland has conveyed its reservations regarding the recently disclosed Memorandum of Understanding between Somaliland and Ethiopia, which purportedly outlines a comprehensive recognition for Somaliland in exchange for a sea gate lease to Ethiopia.
Presidential candidate of Waddani party, Abdirahman Irro, formally stated on Twitter, that the party is prepared to endorse the agreement contingent upon Ethiopia’s unequivocal commitment to recognizing Somaliland as an independent nation.
While expressing support, the party emphasized its concerns about any provisions in the agreement that might compromise the sovereignty of Somaliland. It has called for the presentation of official documents signed by both parties to instill confidence in the proposed agreement.
Abdirahman Irro further urged President Bihi to submit all signed documents to the parliament for a comprehensive assessment of the positive implications for Somaliland.
