Arab League Summit Set to Kick off in Tunis, Golan Heights Top on the Agenda

TUNIS ( 31.03.2019) The 30th Ordinary Arab Summit is scheduled to kick off in the Tunisian capital on Sunday. Already various Arab leaders have arrived ready to take part in the important annual summit. Algerian and Sudanese leaders skipped the forum due to the ongoing internal political situation in their respective states.

Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is represented by the Foreign Affairs and the International Cooperation Minister, ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad in the meeting.

Ambassador Awad is expected to focus on his presentation speech the challenges facing his country mainly terrorism that has crippled the Horn of the African state and the significant gains made by his government.

The US recognition of the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, the Palestinian freedom struggle, Iranian expansionist agenda in the region and fight against extremist groups are among the top at the agenda.

The Arab League spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said the 22-member bloc would aim to issue a proclamation on the Golan, but experts expect little more than a standard denunciation.
