Unknown gunmen have last night shot and killed a prominent traditional elder in Kismayo the Jubbaland headquarter.
The traditional elder who was identified as Sultan Rashid Duure Omar was shot while leaving a mosque he prayed the evening prayer.
Jubbaland Interior Minister Mohamed Warsame Darwish announced that the assassin man was armed with an AK47 has immediately escaped from the area he has also injured two other people.
The deceased Sultan was among traditional elders who have objected a recent decision made by the Jubbaland electoral commission.
Jubbaland State President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe has ordered the security agencies to respond promptly.
So far no group has yet claimed the responsibility for the murder of Sultan Rashid Duure Omar and ongoing security operations have not arrested any suspects.
The incident comes as more security forces were deployed to strengthen the security situation of Kismayo town ahead of the poll election.
