Somalian armed forces have captured a key Al-Shabaab area in Bardhere district in Gedo region, the military said.
Somali National Army commander in charge of the 49th Infantry Division in Gedo Ali Mohamed told the media his forces launched an operation Sunday and captured Ali Hared locality and adjacent areas. According to Mohamed, the militant group Al-Shabaab had a check point in Ali Hared which was a major source of income.
“Our operation was planned ahead and we executed it yesterday capturing Ali Hared and nearby areas. The terrorists are on the run,” said Mohamed.
Somali forces in collaboration with Africa Union troops have liberated several areas in Gedo region in recent operations.
