The Nigerian national football team’s captain John Obi Mikel has been left out of the Super Eagles’ squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification duty scheduled for later this month.
Nigeria will play Seychelles in the qualifier before facing Egypt in a friendly game.
31-year-old Mikel has not featured for his country since he captained the team at the 2019 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Other than Mikel, coach Gernot Rohr also left Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho out of the team.
Mikel currently plays for English club Middlesbrough which is hoping to earn promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.
The veteran midfielder has featured 85 times for the Super Eagles, scoring six times.
Worth noting however, Odion Ighalo who plays for Chinese club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua has been included in the squad.
